FAQs

HOW DO I CREATE A CUSTOM NECKLACE?
The first step to create a custom charm necklace is adding a base necklace that has a chain. Pick from any of the necklaces on our website and add to cart. Or you can pick one of our chains sold separately here.

Once the base necklace/chain is added to the cart, find the charms you want to add and pick "No Chain" under chain option to add those additional charms. We will add all the charms together to make your custom creation.

Please note all charms come on 4mm jump rings so you can take them on and off to create your own arrangement.

WHAT TYPE OF CHAINS DO THE CHARMS COME ON?
14k solid gold charms come on a 14k solid gold chain
14k gold plated charms come on a gold filled chain
Sterling silver charms come on a sterling silver chain

WHAT IF MY RING SIZE IS BETWEEN STANDARD SIZES?
Most of our rings can be made in custom sizes. Email us at info@talonnyc.com to confirm. There is a $25 sizing charge and custom rings cannot be returned.

HOW DO I TAKE CARE OF MY JEWELRY?
I make jewelry meant to be worn! That being said, some pieces are more delicate than others. Watch earrings and necklace clasps when taking sweaters on and off and take rings off when doing work that would bang them up, unless you like the worn in look!

For silver and 14k solid gold, you can wear your piece everywhere. I shower, work out and go to the beach in my jewelry. A polishing cloth is all you need to shine the piece back up. When not wearing, the best storage is inside a zip loc bag. However, any tarnish on these metals can be removed with a polishing cloth.

14k Gold Plate will last the longest if you don't wear it in the shower or to the beach or working out. When the plating rubs against skin, it will eventually wear off. Be sure to keep these pieces in a zip loc back when not wearing.

With brass there is always the possibility that some people may experience a temporary green or black oxidation from the small amount of copper in the metal alloy that reacts with the oxygen in the air, sweat and oils in the skin. This totally varies from person to person and depends on the individual's unique skin chemistry. Although not harmful, if you are prone to this reaction and don't like it, we recommend purchasing sterling silver or 14k gold instead.

OPAL CARE

Opal jewelry should be the last thing you put on before heading out the door and the first thing you take off.

Opals are a soft stone and require just a little bit more care than some other stones. Be gentle and avoid wearing your opal jewelry doing activities that might cause it to be hit up against hard surfaces (gardening, lifting weights, etc.). Additionally, keep your opal out of hot water such as hot tubs, spas, hot springs, showers, etc.
Opals are porous stones and will absorb cosmetics, so it's best to put your opal jewelry on after moisturizing and putting on makeup.
To clean your opal, simply wipe with a soft cloth and leave to dry out of direct sunlight. Do not put opals in an ultrasonic cleaner. When not wearing your opal, store in a cotton or microfiber pouch or zip loc bag.

SUSTAINABILITY
I design TALON jewelry in my studio in Ojai California. My production team is located in downtown Los Angeles. Everything I make is created there with loving care. In all aspects of business, I try to maintain the smallest footprint possible, using recycled metals, recycling plastic baggies, repurposing returned merchandise, etc. I am constantly striving to improve my sustainable practices.
